lil-o-h's blog
food. photography. and a money-grubbing thing called travel.
enjoy my attempts to get back into chronicling my life,
since my brain has the memory retention of a kitchen sponge.

napa valley
i'm going a little bit out of order when it comes to bloggin' my california roadtrip, but my first time to napa was pretty darn amazing, even if we did only hit up two wineries:
but although wine may be a crush, food is forever. yountville, home to some mean cuisine, is my new love and i can't wait to visit again in june.

ithaca
whenever cornell university comes up, no one ever talks about how beautiful it is. all i hear is how cold, or isolated, or suicidal it is. but if it were closer, it'd be a day-trip here, a day-trip there..
maybe it's because i went to a public university, founded in the '60s, where gray eucalyptus trees are everywhere, and construction eats up every inch of green lawn, and the architecture is completely eclectic and modern..
i suppose i was biased by the weather, but to be honest it did snow the night before. i was just indoors.. in my hotel bed.. watching grey's anatomy with the heater on blast.
here's to global warming and keeping it spring-time all year round in ithaca for the next three years..

wine bar
ever since my trip up to napa, i've discovered a fondness for wine i never had for grape juice. i guess knowledge really is contagious.
the other day we hit up a wine bar in north park where you swipe a d&b-esque card to buy ounces of different wines.
venue was small and crowded, food took forever, very understaffed, but didn't matter. got together with friends, tried some new drinks & had a good time on a drizzly tuesday.

college papers
i was spring cleaning over the weekend and decided it was time to chuck my college papers. it'd been 2 years (!!) since i've been out and i realized there was no point in keeping old midterms, papers, & notes.
i took quite a handful of subjects..

econ, which was actually quite useful.

biology, though i'm wondering why the heck there's so many hearts, science is not exactly my favorite..

and of course, psychology.
i was required to take a 2-year writing program, thanks eleanor roosevelt college! it was a pain in the butt, but i'm actually quite proud of some of my research papers that came out of that program. i always picked pretty interesting topics.

like sex,

drugs,

and rock&roll.
jk, this one was about homosexuality during the third reich.

i discovered my obsession with highlighters (really, i had no idea).

even though i did well in school and liked most of my classes (yeah, big nerd here), one thing i'm glad about is i won't ever be filling out one of these again.

soba & russell
meet soba.
he just turned 2. or is almost 2. well, let's just say he's approximately 2. that's the thing about strays, you never really know.
this is russell.
he's not yet 1, and he's soba's neighbor from the second floor of our building. he's been coming up to play about once a week.
unfortunately i don't really have any photos of them together, because when they are in a one-photo vicinity, it's a lot of paw-whomping and whimpering going on. yeah, soba's a big bully. so usually it's like this..
soba up there, russell down here.
however, i'm sure soba did enjoy ONE aspect of the night, when his not-so-favorite halloween costume was pulled out and put on the dog.
and i think russell enjoyed it too.
